In March 2024, five Phase 1 winners advanced to Phase 2 of the Lead Detect Prize, a $1 million challenge, on behalf of the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, to enhance testing for lead in children. From March to August, the Phase 2 teams participated in a virtual accelerator and received support from a diverse group of mentors to advance the development of next-generation point-of-care blood lead testing technology. After they completed their Phase 2 submissions, each team shared how they heard about the prize, how they created their technologies, and what they’ve learned from this experience.

Next month, the Lead Detect Prize will host a Demo Day at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University. During the event, the five Phase 2 teams will showcase their lead detection solutions, and the winners of the $850,000 Phase 2 prize pool will be announced.
